Anthropic has opened Claude Academy, a free online learning platform the company says is built around the same approach it uses to train its own staff on Anthropic’s AI systems. The hub, published August 20, expands on the company’s narrower, developer-focused Anthropic Academy from March into a broader set of tracks for everyday users, team leads, and builders.
What the academy teaches
Courses are organized around Anthropic’s main products — Claude.ai, Claude Cowork, Claude Code, Claude Tag, and the developer platform — plus a separate “AI Fluency” track that introduces non-technical concepts through what the company calls the 4D framework: Delegation, Description, Discernment, and Diligence. Lessons range from short tutorials to multi-hour courses with quizzes, and a built-in “Claude Academy” skill recommends content based on a learner’s role.
Anthropic frames the effort around five stated principles, including that AI instruction should “increase human agency” rather than replace judgment, and that safe use of AI extends beyond a single chat window to how people disclose and check AI-assisted work. According to the company, the curriculum echoes internal onboarding material for new hires, including the framing that “today’s AI is the worst AI you’ll ever use.”
Part of a broader education push
The launch follows a wave of AI-literacy moves from rival labs. Google recently gave students free access to its AI Pro plan and added study tools to Search, while Anthropic has separately been simplifying day-to-day use of its own tools, including making “Auto Mode” the default setting in Claude Code. Claude Academy’s Claude Code track builds on that shift, walking new users through the coding agent step by step.
Anthropic has increasingly tied its growth strategy to AI literacy, pitching Claude-specific education resources as a way to widen adoption beyond technical teams. The company has not disclosed usage figures for Claude Academy or said whether completing a course carries any certification recognized outside its own ecosystem.
