Anthropic has added a new way to teach Claude Cowork how to do a job: show it once, on screen, and let it watch.

The feature, called Record a Skill, launched July 21 for Cowork users on Anthropic’s Claude desktop app. According to Anthropic’s official Claude account, users can “record your screen while you do a task, talk through it as you go, and Claude turns it into a skill it can run again.” The tool sits under the “+” menu inside Cowork, alongside Cowork’s other automation options.

How it works

Instead of writing a prompt or describing steps in text, a user starts a recording, performs the task on their computer while narrating their reasoning out loud, and stops when finished. Claude then processes the screen activity, clicks, keystrokes, and voice commentary into a structured skill saved to the user’s library, which can be triggered again without repeating the walkthrough. Anthropic frames the approach as a way to capture judgment calls — naming conventions, ordering, fallback decisions — that are easy to perform but tedious to spell out in writing.
