AI production studio Particle6 announced on July 7 that it has begun development on “Misaligned,” a full-length feature film starring Tilly Norwood, the company’s AI-generated performer. It would be Norwood’s first lead role in a feature-length production since her debut in 2025.

According to Particle6, “Misaligned” is a comedy-drama set inside the “Tillyverse,” a digital world where Norwood’s character — an AI without lived experience — is drawn toward independence by a “rogue bot from the dark web,” growing more human and more famous as the story unfolds.

Founder and CEO Eline van der Velden said the film “will absolutely be funny, chaotic and self-aware — very Tilly,” adding that “underneath it, there’s something deeper about identity, performance and our very human fears around AI.” She described the project as a test of whether AI can support “premium narrative filmmaking,” but said that only works “with substantial amounts of human craft, skill, judgement and time.” Particle6 says the production will pair traditional writers, directors and editors with AI specialists rather than replace the crew outright.

Backlash from actors

The announcement revived criticism that has followed Norwood since talent agencies first floated signing her in 2025. SAG-AFTRA, the US actors’ union, has said it does not consider Norwood an actor, arguing she has “no life experience to draw from, no emotion,” and that Particle6 built her using “stolen performances to put actors out of work, jeopardizing performer livelihoods and devaluing human artistry.” Actors including Emily Blunt and Melissa Barrera have also publicly condemned the character.

Particle6 has not disclosed a release date, budget, or cast beyond Norwood, saying key collaborators are still being attached. The company says it plans to keep testing whether audiences will accept an AI-generated lead in a full-length narrative film, after earlier short-form experiments drew mixed and often critical reactions.
